The last « Maestro » of Sicilian Puppetry
The historical centre of Palermo houses the last « Opera dei Pupi ». An ancient marionette theatre, the tradition links its roots back to the ‘chanson de geste’ (Songs of deeds) era (Old French literary epics), and Mimmo Cuticchio is it’s sole heir. At 65 years of age, this master of the trade is continuing a family tradition that has spanned a number of centuries. It is a Sicilian art where knights from the time of the crusades are the heroic protagonists in intricate painted frescoes. Francis Ford Coppola has dedicated a scene to Mimmo in the Godfather III. And UNESCO has designated Sicilian Puppet Theatre as part of humanity’s « oral and intangible heritage ». Welcome to the universe of Palermitan puppetry and its star: Mimmo Cuticchio!

In the womb of Naples
The world’s most surrealistic subway
In the tumultuous and chaotic Italian city, the world’s most extraordinary subway is born. Imagined by Italy’s greatest architects, the stations look like a fantastic museum. The idea is a simple one: to bring contemporary art closer to commuters, who are by definition distracted and in a hurry.
