A new picture book, « Burmese Shadows », by Bangkok-based Photojournalist Thierry Falise, covers twenty five years of reporting on life behind the bamboo curtain in one of the world’s most secretive countries. Now that Burma/Myanmar seems to have taken the path towards political reforms,the book comes as a reminder of a tragic and unfinished recent history.

Burma/Myanmar – Kachin land back to dark ages
In June 2011, after 17 years of cease-fire, fighting resumed between the Burma/Myanmar army and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), the armed wing of the Kachin Independence Organisation (KIO), an predominantly Christian ethnic group living in the Kachin State, along the Northern border with China. More than 60,000 villagers have fled the conflict areas to find shelter in makeshift camps along the Chinese border.

The Free Burma Rangers – Rangers with a cause…
For fifteen years, the Free Burma Rangers have been dispatching their relief teams to the hundreds of thousands of people forced to hide in the jungle and the mountain after being driven away from their village by the Burmese army. These young volunteers are trained to emergency medical technique and the gathering of information about Burmese soldiers exactions.
