Damascus, the eye of the East
It’s not easy being paradise on earth in a country so often censured by the West…Arising out of the desert four thousand years ago, the capital of Syria again bats her eyelashes to seduce the voyager. Restoration of its palaces, enhancement of its mosques, redevelopment of its souks, Old Damascus is giving itself a beauty treatment.

Aleppo, the spices’s provider
Although it may contend with its rival, Damascus, for the title of the oldest,still-inhabited city in the world, Aleppo has no cause to be jealous of the Syrian capital. A veritable human hive, the Vienna of Levant, commercially shrewd, music loving, gastronomic and refined, has never ceased asserting its ebullient occupations.

The people of marshlands
…in the garden of Eden
Persecuted and driven out of the Iraqi marshes, where Sumerian used to live since Antiquity, the « Arabs of Marshlands » started to recover their territory drained by Saddam Hussein. After three decades, water is back and life too, as it was 6,000 years ago.

Tallil… Iraq ?
Thirteen thousand American soldiers are living in the American base of Tallil. They know nothing of Iraq and Iraqis. The vast majority of them never goes out, because it’s forbidden, because it might be dangerous…by the way, how is it outside the walls ?

Petra and its little secret paths.
Petra is one of these rare places in the world that you have the impression to know without ever been to before. There is the Petra of Hollywood, the one that Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) and his father (Sean Connery) discover, riding, in the Steven Spielberg’s movie, « Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade ». Or the Petra of Tintin with the Khazneh temple, drawn by Hergé in a scene from « Coke en stock ». There is also, for sure, the touristy Petra, the one that the groups discover between the Siq, the Khazneh and the royal temples in less than three hours, constantly rushed by adisillusioned guide. But above all, there is also the Petra with its small forgotten paths, its secret canyons and its discreet temples.

Diary of US Soldiers in Iraq.
Diary of US Soldiers in Iraq chronicles one of the bloodiest times during the entire Iraq war, from the perspective of US soldiers fighting in Baghdad. During his summer embedded with front line infantry troops, Zoriah documented as they performed raids on Iraqi homes, took detainees, went on foot patrols through the dangerous streets and lived their daily lives in cramped quarters at small outposts throughout the city.
He also was able to document the drama of Bahgdad ER, Iraq’s busiest emergency hospital.

Toy Bomb.
Raed Mokaled, who lost his five year-old son Ahmad in a cluster bomb explosion while celebrating his birthday, said that the death season was approaching. Raed was referring to cluster bomb ammunition scattered in fields in southern Lebanon. He said soon families would start picnicking on the weekends to enjoy the spring weather where the shapes and small size of what Raed Calls « the sleeping enemy » are appealing to children, who mistake them for toys.According to Human Rights Watch, the lethal weapon was used in 24 countries for more than 40 years causing unacceptable harm to civilians. They were last deployed in Lebanon in the 2006 Hezbollah-Israeli war.

Doha booming.
Everyone is speaking of Dubai, but who knows Doha? The capital of Qatar is booming. Constantly under construction, Doha is flirting with the inordinate madness of Dubai… all while juggling with the conservatism of its neighbor, Saudi Arabia. A shopping paradise and financial stronghold, the future megalopolis is on its way to becoming an Eldorado of culture, sport and tourism, a Silicon Valley of the Gulf, still proudly attached to its traditions. It took centuries to build the megalopoles of today. It will have taken only a few years for Doha to become a leading player. It is here that tomorrow’s world is being built.

Dubaï, the navel of the Gulf…
Like New York or Hong Kong, Dubaï is a vertical town which stands straight optimising the space it holds on the ground.. A dynamic and truly modern business center, Dubaï stands out as a pionneer among other cities of the Emirates, while it distinguishe itself from the other cities for its acceptance of foreigners. It is also becoming a model for the rest of the world. A city where the most utopic plans become reality.
