It’s a natural and fragile gem which is cared for like royalty. It takes 5 years for an oyster to produce one of these pearls, and the slightest shock during that time could ruin it…

Colombia -Land of Emeralds
In 1564, beating a hasty retreat following a savage combat against the Muzo Indians, the conquistador Juan de Penagos stopped his limping horse and discovered, caught in one of its horseshoes, a superb emerald. Thus, as legend has it, the mine of Muzo, containing the greatest deposit of emeralds in the world, was discovered.
