River Dolphins in danger !
The definite extinction of the Baiji, or Chinese dolphin, is not only the first ever for a cetacean but could likely be followed by others. River dolphins are amongst the most endangered mammals in the world because they live right where humans are most active for fishing but also industry and transport, hence pollution. Hunting is usually not a major threat as these animals are often linked to religious beliefs. But this does not save them from being accidentally trapped in nets or starved by lack of fish. Portraits of these original creatures (some are almost blind, have crocodile rostrums, spit water, or bear hairs?) which live in the largest rivers of the planet.
